TITLE:PCL Driver for the Macintosh
DOCUMENT ID#:FYI.W.0241
DATE:23NOV92
PRODUCT:NetWare for Macintosh
PRODUCT VERSION:v3.0x
SUPERSEDES:NA
SYMPTOM
The user cannot print from a Macintosh to a parallel attached PCL printer.
ISSUE/PROBLEM
In the past, there have only been serial, as opposed to Appletalk, PCL drivers for the Macintosh.
SOLUTION
An Appletalk (as opposed to serial) PCL driver is available for the Macintosh (System 6.05 and beyond). This driver is truly meant for the PaintJet XL300. However, it will work with generic PCL laser printers if they are specified as type PaintJet XL300 in the ATPS.CFG file as shown:
Example: -o QUEUENAME -wb -t PaintJet XL300
The drivers are available on CompuServe by doing the following steps:
1.Type Go HP.
2.Select HP Peripherals Forum.
3.Select HPs for Apple.
4.Download PJXL3A.SIT and PJXL3B.SIT files.
The drivers will search for an NBP type of PaintJet XL300 and use PCL version 5.

TITLE:Printing to Printers with Multiple NBP Types
DOCUMENT ID#:FYI.W.0243
DATE:25NOV92
PRODUCT:NetWare for Macintosh
PRODUCT VERSION:v2.2
SUPERSEDES:NA
SYMPTOM
When configuring NetWare for Macintosh print queue services, the queue does not publish itself to the Macintosh users.
ISSUE/PROBLEM
With the NetWare for Macintosh v2.2 APSVAP.VAP, the queue would not be published if the printer had multiple NBP types. Printers that have multiple NBP types include the Paintjet XL300, printers that use the HP Jet Direct card, and some other Laserjet printers.
SOLUTION
A newer version of the APSVAP.VAP (v2.22d2) is available that will allow the queue to publish for a printer that supports multiple NBP types. This file is available on CompuServe (NetWire, NOVLIB, library 8) and is called APSVAP.ZIP. This file is also available through the NSEPro.

TITLE:Gateway G/EtherTwist 32 and NetWare for Macintosh
DOCUMENT ID#:FYI.W.0244
DATE:09NOV92
PRODUCT:NetWare for Macintosh
PRODUCT VERSION:v3.0x
SUPERSEDES:NA
SYMPTOM
When the G/EtherTwist 32 card is loaded with ethernet_snap, the user is prompted to load the card again, having to choose the frame type. If ethernet_snap is chosen, then Macintosh or DOS workstations are not able to recognize the server or log in to the network.
ISSUE/PROBLEM
The G/EtherTwist 32 ethernet card is shipped with a driver dated 05-26-92 that does not support AppleTalk Phase 2 when using the ethernet_snap frame type.
SOLUTION
A new driver is available from Gateway on their bulletin board dated 08-17-92. When this new driver is loaded, the card loads properly and both types of workstations are able to log in to the network.
Note: The G/EtherTwist 32 ethernet card is not Novell Labs certified.
